1. What performing arts programmes are offered at ILF?

ILF offers classes in:

  • Drums

  • Afro-Caribbean Dance

  • Theatre

  • Folk Singing

  • Tuk Music

  • Stilt Walking

  • Steel Pan

 

Dance and drum classes are offered consistently each term, whereas classes for other disciplines are subject to the number of interested persons registered.

 

2. How frequently is registration available?

New students to each program, as well as those who wish to continue, may register at the start of each term. The terms run almost concurrently with the traditional school term, instead beginning the second week of the school term and ending one week after the school term ends. A term runs 12 or 13 weeks.

Registration is announced on ILF's Facebook page before each term begins.

3. What is the cost to register for any of the performing arts classes?

Currently, the cost per term is $80 or registrants may pay a fee of $10 per session. This price is subject to change so always confirm what is the amount due at time of registration.

4. On what days are the classes scheduled for each program?

 

Typically drum and dance classes for new students are held on Saturdays. There are different times for each age group, including children and adults. The specific schedule is posted on ILF's Facebook page each term but may also be confirmed by contacting the office at 437-3113.

6. Do new students have an opportunity to perform on stage before an audience?

At the end of each term, there is a showcase presented on stage before an audience at ILF. Students may invite family, friends and other supporters to attend.

7. Are there other performing arts options aside from those listed above?

If a reasonable number of individuals show interest in another discipline, we will consider assigning an instructor for these classes.

8. What ages are welcomed to participate in the performing arts programs at ILF?

Parents are permitted to register children from age 4. Minors must be registered by a parent or guardian.

There is no maximum age stipulated so adults of any age may register. If your mind is willing and your body is able, you are welcome to participate in any program. We only ask that you show enthusiasm and discipline.

9. May individuals with former training in dance and/or music join either troupe?

 

For performers who wish to join the dance or drum troupes, there are evening sessions on weekdays. These sessions are reserved for committed performers, who will represent the ILF on stage in competition and other public events.
